3D Hybrid Imaging [HSHI]

Summary
In recent years, three dimensional hybrid imaging has become more and more important in the field of medical imaging. Its high potential in terms of increase in diagnostic ability derives from the combination of two or more independent imaging techniques which already possess high diagnostic accuracy as standalone applications. In oncology as well as neurology and cardiology the state of the art combines Computed Tomography (CT) with nuclear medicine techniques such as Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) or Positron Emission Tomography (PET). This powerful combination is manifested in the latest generation of hybrid scanners. The advantage for the clinicians is the availability of coexistent morphological (CT, MR) and functional (PET, SPECT) information of the same patient. This information is merged, in order to exploit the diagnostic performance of both modalities. The goal of this workshop is to gain an overview of 3D hybrid imaging techniques currently applied in clinical workflows and to introduce new ideas for future implementation. In addition, both benefits and pitfalls of those techniques in terms of clinical performance and feasibility should be assessed.
