NewsResearch on papal documents between international networking and digitization: New approaches to the history of writing and chanceriesDigitalisation makes research in medieval charters faster as well as more efficient and modern. A certain scepticism towards new IT based tools, however, is still to be found among historians. By intensifying the cooperation between palaeographers, diplomatists and computer scientists, this scepticism might be overcome, a cooperation may lead to an enduring and useful establishment of IT tools. The aim of the conference is to bring together distinguished scientists in Medieval History, Historical Auxiliary Sciences and Computer Sciences (focusing mainly on Pattern Recognition) in order to discuss experiences, chances and challenges of this increasing European integration. Palaeographers and/or editors should report their experiences with these digital tools and provide an insight into their needs and expectations on computer sciences. Where might, for instance, IT based tools help to facilitate historical work or optimise its outcome? For further information please click here. Date, location: 24th and 25th March 2014, Munich, Historisches Kolleg The conference program can be found (flyer/ programme).
