Alumnus of the Pattern Recognition Lab of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg

The vision of my work is to develop image processing methods that provide new tools for ophthalmologists to ease the detection of glaucoma and related eye diseases.

OCT Image Denoising

Denoising is usually one of the major steps in segmentation preprocessing. We investigate noise suppression algorithms known from computer science for their usability for OCT images. Furthermore, new ways of thinking have to be evolved: Speckle noise suppression on some commercially available OCT images is currently performed by averaging multiple frames. We develop methods, that are capable of a better differentiation between image information and speckle noise on multiframe OCT data sets.

OCT scan of a dead pigs eye. Two images shown. First: Average of 8 OCT frames. Second: 8 frames merged by multiframe wavelet denoising. The images were taken from our belowmentioned publication. The data is publicly available.
