The offices of the Computer Science Dept. 5 (Lehrstuhl Informatik 5) are located on the Campus of the Faculty of Engineering (Technische Fakultät) located on the Southern Campus (Südgelände) of the university.

The following description of how to get to us is devided into two parts:

The offices of the Computer Science Dept. 5 (Lehrstuhl Informatik 5) are located on the 9th and 10th floor of the blue Computer-Science-Tower (Wolfgang-Händler-Tower), which can be easiliy seen from nearly anywhere on the campus. The Secretary's Office (Sekretariat) is located on the 9th floor (room 09.138).

Parking space close to the Computer-Science-Tower is limited. Please use the parking areas at Cauer-Straße.

You can choose among the following alternatives to get to the campus:

• Directions
  Directions can be obtained by using the journey planner (Fahrplanauskunft) of the local public transport company VGN specifiying as destination:

     Stadt/Ort; Straße/Hausnummer: Erlangen; Martensstraße 3

• From Erlangen Bahnhofsplatz (Train Station) using the bus (approx. 20 minute journey time):
  For travel information use the VGN website (in german only) entering start/destination as:
     Start: Stadt/Ort; Haltestelle: Erlangen; Bahnhof
     Ziel: Stadt/Ort; Straße/Hausnummer: Erlangen; Martensstraße 3

  The following bus lines start at the Bahnhofsvorplatz (place in front of the train station). You will be needing a ticket for short trips, zone K.

  • Line 287 and 293:
    Take the bus Direction Sebaldussiedlung and get off at Stop Technische Fakultät.
    You will find the bus stop on the upper left corner of the map the map. You will reach the Computer-Science-Tower after a 3 minute walk.
    Remark: Bus service intervals will be longer during March-April and August-October when there are no lectures, these services are marked in the time-table.
  • Line 295 and 30/30E:
    Take the bus Direction Tennenlohe (295) resp. Direction Nürnberg (30/30E) and get off at Stop Erlangen/Süd. You will find the bus stop on the lower left corner of the map the map. The footpath to the right hand side starts at the pedestrian bridge (don't cross that bridge). You will reach the Computer-Science-Tower after a 10 minute walk.

• From Nürnberg using tram/bus (approx. 25-45 minute journey time)

   Ziel: Stadt/Ort; Straße/Hausnummer: Erlangen; Martensstraße 3


• From City Centre Nürnberg
  Take the tram line 9 (from Train Station / Rathenauplatz) or tram line 4 (from Plärrer) and get off at the Terminal Stop Thon.
• From Nürnberg Thon
  Take the bus line 30/30E Direction Erlangen and get off at Stop Erlangen/Süd. You will find the bus stop on the lower left corner of the map. The footpath to the right hand side starts at the pedestrian bridge (don't cross that bridge). You will reach the Computer-Science-Tower after a 10 minute walk.

 

• Using the Autobahn A3 coming from Munich (München) or Würzburg:

  1. Use the Exit Tennenlohe and follow the highway B4 Direction Erlangen.
  2. Use the Exit Universität Südgelände.
  3. After the exit turn left, direction Erlangen resp. Südgelände (the street's name is Kurt-Schumacher-Straße).
  4. Drive straight ahead and turn left into Cauer-Straße.
  5. From there follow the directions on the map Orientation on the Campus.

• Using the Autobahn A73 from Bamberg or Nürnberg:

  1. Use the Exit Erlangen-Bruck and turn Direction Nürnberg
  2. Follow the four-lane street Paul-Gossen-Straße (B4), until you leave the city limits.
  3. Use the Exit Südgelände resp. Gräfenberg.
  4. Turn left into Kurt-Schumacher-Straße.
  5. Drive straight ahead and turn left into Cauer-Straße.
  6. From there follow the directions Orientation on the Campus.

• Special directions when approaching Erlangen from South-West:
  When approaching on the Autobahn A6 follow the directions Nürnberg Flughafen (Nürnberg Airport) until your are on the Autobahn A3. This route will take you from the Autobahn A6 via intersection Nürnberg-Ost to the Autobahn A9 and then on the intersection Nürnberg to the Autobahn A3. See Autobahn map.

You can lookup your train connections using Online-Fahrplanauskunft. Preset ist the adress of the computer science building which will enable the database to show the public transport connections to/from the Erlangen or Nürmberg train station als well as the long distance connections.

Your destination will normaly be Erlangen train station Erlangen Hbf. To get to the campus you can choose between taxi and bus.

 

• Taxi (approx. 15 minute travel time):
  

  Ask the driver to take you to Martensstraße 3. Follow the directions on the map Orientation on the Campus.

• Bus:
  

  See local public transport above.

 

If your connections require that you change at Nürnberg Hbf into a local train towards Erlangen, you should check if it is faster to use local public transport from Nürnberg Hbf train station to get to the campus.

Your destination Airport Nürnberg has the three-letter-airport-code NUE. To get to the campus you can basically choose between rental car and taxi. We can't recommend public transport in this case.

• Taxi (approx. 15 minute travel time):
  Ask the driver to take you to Martensstraße 3. Follow the directions on the map Orientation on the Campus.
• Rental Car (approx. 30 minute travel time):

  1. Leave the airport area following the access road. At the end turn right at the main road, and follow the signs Erlangen (B4).
  2. At the next large intersection turn right into B4 Direction Erlangen
  3. Use Exit Universität Südgelände.
  4. At the end of the exit turn left, direction Erlangen resp. Südgelände (Kurt-Schumacher-Straße).
  5. Drive straight ahead until you can turn left into Cauer-Straße.

  6. From there follow the directions on the map Orientation on the campus

• Public Transport:
  The best connection is depending on your arrival time. Please check the Journey Planner of the local public transportation company VGN:
